At least make the default setting 1080p direct play/maximum. And to be harsh again, but if letting ignorant users on the server, probably best to keep 4k content separate in the first place, nobody should be watching it unless they have the equipment needed to play it. I don't doubt data caps exist, but I can't remember the last time I had one. Yeah I guess so, it may sound harsh but I'd rather ignorant users learn the hard way and have their data maxed out, than have to babysit every single user on the server and literally paint them a picture by gathering screenshots of the settings page from every device possible, to show them how to do a simple task. I like how you're saying server owners won't know this stuff, yet Plex's current model requires each and every one of my tech illiterate users to know this. The average server owner is going to know a lot more about this than any of the friends/relatives/users they share to. Nah, I know how much bandwidth I have and how much CPU I don't have.ĭon't overestimate the average server owner, it's going to be the exact same people not changing any defaults A lot more users will have a flawless streaming experience with the setting I've decided than the ones they default to.īecause it's set to original quality and there isn't enough upload bandwidth on the server. Any testing help to figure this out is appreciated.Ĭonfirmation this does infact force Auto quality transcoding across client's and more updates and info from the official Plex employee: Įdit 2: u/skateboard34 has confirmed this worksĮdit 3: Confirmed working by multiple usersĪnd then you're going to run into the opposite of the current problem, a bunch of users on default settings not being able to streamĪs mentioned previously in this thread, I know a lot more about my relatives' connections than they do. However due to my limited DSL bandwidth I cant do extensive testing on this. These two things when flipped to true seem to force all clients to auto adjust the quality and to allow for direct playback when bandwidth is available. I was digging through the Plex API and found two interesting flags: Please go to the relevant subreddits and support forums, for example: Build help and build shares posts go in their respective megathreads No referral / affiliate links, personal voting / campaigning / funding, or selling posts Welcome to /r/Plex, a subreddit dedicated to Plex, the media server/client solution for enjoying your media!
